Welcome to the Cellar!

6 Mile Cellars is a boutique winery located in Harborcreek Pennsylvania situated in a repurposed - former horse barn that's over 100 years old! Established in 2012, we've been proud members of the Lake Erie Wine Trail and act as the "West Gate" for visitors stopping into our great region. Our comfortable, intimate tasting room is a great place to relax and enjoy the day with a diverse tasting menu of dry and sweet wines alike.

About the Barn and Farm

The barn the winery is located in is a pre-civil war historical site originally built in the 1850's. It was rebuilt and moved from its original location (just a quick walk from where it is now) in 1913 by it's original owner Jonny L. Meehan. It was purchased on August 22, 1947 by Leonard Lewis Towell. Leonard's son, Leonard Edward Towell (Lenny) worked with his father on the farm tending to horses and their concord vineyard. The concord vineyard was plowed under in the 1970's around the same time Lenny and his wife Sherri were gifted property from Leonard. In the 1980's they replanted the vineyard with Niagara grapes as that was the only contract Welch's was offering at the time! These are the vineyards that remain on the property today. Since then, the family has lived on the property and continued to maintain the vineyards. Lenny's son, Bart Towell grew up helping on the farm in the vineyards, and today lives at the property with his Wife Jenn, and their three children. As you visit our cellar, you can still see remnants of the old barn including old tack, nameplates from the horses stable, and of course the beautiful stone foundation that was hand masoned by Jonny back in the early 1900's

Beginning the Winemaking Journey

As Bart Towell grew up in the vineyards and learning from his Father and Grandfather about winemaking - he decided to give it a try later in life along with one of his closest friends - Pat Walsh. They originally made wine for Pat and his wife Angela for their wedding in 2005. From then on, they continued to make wine and eventually cider for fun - much to the joy of their close friends and family that got to reap the benefits! It was decided in 2010 that the two would work to renovate the barn and use it as a tasting room and production site. With the help of Lenny and Bart's father-in-law Jim Estok, they worked on renovating the basement of the cellar into the beautiful site it is today. Opening in May of 2012, Bart and Pat started 6  Mile Cellars as Co-owners. For years it's been a destination on the Lake Erie Wine Trail known for it's fantastic wine and cider, as well as knowledgeable and friendly staff. During this time they've produced incredible wines and ciders, including stellar favorites such as Derby Red, Estate Niagara, Honey Badger Cider, and so many more! In 2022, Bart Towell made the decision to take a step back from the winery and passed on his ownership to Pat who remains as the owner today.
